OPENING KICK
- These two teams met last season under the same scenario, following the Tigers' loss to Grambling State. Last season, Jackson State defeated Florida A&M 41-16 behind a rushing attack that gained 392 yards on the ground with a pair of 100-yard rushers in the game - Ahmad Miller and Donerio Davenport.
- Nate Rembert scored a pair of touchdowns in the win last season - a rush and a reception - for Jackson State, following up on his 130-yard receiving day with a touchdown for Mississippi Valley State the year before.
- Jackson State has yet again come up with a three-headed monster in the backfield to complement last season's running back. The trio of Nate Blount IV {499], Li'Darius Pryor [270], and Emari Matthews [219] have rushed for 988 yards this season [63.7 percent of the yards put up the Tigers]. With Blount out last week against Grambling State, Pryor ran for 166 yards on 22 carries and added three touchdowns - all career highs for the freshman.
- Jared Lockhart, who left the game last week at halftime, has not thrown an interception in 138 pass attempts this season. There are three teams in the country that have not had an interception: Butler, Eastern Illinois, and Lehigh.
- Since the fall of 2021, Jackson State has won 65 of 78 games overall and is 38-5 in regular season games against conference competition. The Tigers have won three Southwestern Athletic Conference [SWAC] championships, played in three Celebration Bowls, and won the 2024 HBCU national championship.
- Jackson State is 16-3 at home under head coach T.C. Taylor since taking the helm in 2023, including a 6-0 mark in 2024. The Tigers also went 5-1 at home last season, with their lone loss coming in the SWAC Championship game, ending an 11-game home winning streak. The Tigers have not lost a non-conference home game under Taylor.
- Jackson State is playing its second consecutive home game on ESPN+ after defeating Southern two weeks ago, and the game will mark the third time the Tigers appear on the network, where they are 3-0 this season.
- Freshman running back Li'Darius Pryor continues to impress in his first two games with multiple carries this season. He recorded 88 yards against Alabama A&M, seeing action in the second half, and followed that up with 166 yards on 22 carries against Grambling State, including a 76-yard run late in the game. He also scored three touchdowns on the day, giving him a team-high five on the season. The 163 yards are the most in a single game for Jackson State since Ahmad Miller posted 165 against Florida A&M [Oct. 1] and 180 in the season-opener against Hampton [Aug. 30] last season.
- Jackson State created three turnovers against Grambling State, with the interception by Sallis and the fumble recovery for a touchdown by Foster. They picked up a third turnover when Stanley Cooks II forced a fumble late in the game.
