Tigers fall short in SWAC semifinals versus Alabama State

NEW ORLEANS, La, | The Jackson State men's tennis team's season came to an end on Saturday afternoon after falling to the No. 3 Alabama State Hornets in the semifinals of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament.

The Tigers came out swinging, getting the upper hand on the Hornets in the early parts of the doubles competition. Despite their early play, the Hornets duo of Vid Maric and Gordan Mileusnic recorded the first win of the day against Ching Chang Chiui and Chen Hung-Yu in a 6-3 decision. Jackson State's Federico Pieckenstainer and Jhoan Vaquero responded with a 6-2 win over Eloi Roux and Milan Ristov 6-2 to tie it up at one all. The Hornets secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win at number two.

The Tigers continued to fight, taking the first set on multiple courts. Despite Hung-Yu and Chiu extending their matches to three sets, the Hornets scored the three wins needed to advance to the SWAC Championship.

In their final matches in Jackson State uniforms, Pieckenstainer, Vaquero, and Ayar all fought hard to close out their collegiate careers.
