Jackson State claims Dr. James Frank Commissioner’s Cup

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Jackson State claimed the top spot in the final 2025-26 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Commissioner's Cup standings, finishing with 152.0 total points to top Alabama State, which finished second with 149.0 points.

"Winning the Commissioner's Cup is a by-product of the hard work put in by our coaches and student-athletes," Vice President/Director of Athletics Ashley Robinson said. "The competitive balance of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) is at an all-time high, and that makes this one special. This doesn't happen without the hard work of all of our teams, our administration, and support staff. We continue to set the standard in everything we do, as we continue to build on traditions and blaze new trails."

The Dr. James Frank Commissioner's Cup Awards annually recognizes the league institution that posts the strongest overall athletic performances across conference-sponsored sports throughout the academic year.

Jackson State finished second in the men's standings with 69.0 points and the women's standings with 83.0 points.

The Tigers finished with double-digit points in three men's sports, including 13.0 in men's outdoor track and field with its first SWAC championship since 1990, and double-digit points in four sports on the women's side. Jackson State led the race for most of the season and secured the award with 20.0 points combined from the outdoor track and field programs, along with the baseball finish the following week.

The award is the first for Jackson State since the 2010-11 season, and is the sixth overall for the Tigers. They also claimed the award in 1999-2000, 2006-07, 2007-08, and 2008-09 (the final of three consecutive years).

The final standings included Texas Southern in third (152.0), followed by Southern (133.5), Florida A&M (123.0), Prairie View A&M (119.5), Alabama A&M (119.0), Bethune-Cookman (113.0), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (79.0), Alcorn State (75.5), Grambling State (70.5), and Mississippi Valley State (36.5).
