SUWANEE, Ga. | Jackson State won its first tournament of the year, clearing the field by four shots, in a rain-shortened Thomas W. Dortch Jr. HBCU Collegiate Golf Classic at Bears Best Golf Club on Tuesday.
The Tigers finished the tournament at 9-over (297), finishing four shots ahead of North Carolina Central at 13-over (301) and 16 shots ahead of Texas Southern who finished at 25-over (313). The remainder of the field included Chicago State (+26/314), Southern (+30/318), South Carolina State (+51/339), Delaware State (+82/370), and Fisk.
Jannel Calixterio led three players in the top three, finishing second after firing even par (72) as she drained four birdies. She was joined by teammates Briann Briggs and Micaiah Joubert who finished tied for third just one shot back of Calixtereo at 2-over (74). Meanwhile, Isabella Christy finished tied for ninth, and Maddy Beeching finished tied for 12th.
