Aaron Jackson takes over the defensive line after serving as a defensive quality control assistant last season.
Last season (2024), the Tigers finished the season with eight all-conference selections and an All-American in Jeremiah Williams. The Tigers finished the year ranked in several categories including team passing efficiency defense (third), team defense (fourth), scoring defense (sixth), third down conversion percentage defense (seventh), passing yards allowed (ninth), passes intercepted (12th), rushing defense (13th), team tackles for loss (17th), turnovers gained (18th), team sacks (18th), sacks allowed (31st), fumbles recovered (35th), first downs defense (40th), and turnover margin (45th).
Jackson began his coaching career at Jackson State as a graduate assistant coach in June 2019, performing duties for two years before moving to the assistant defensive line position/analyst in July 2021. He assisted in leading practice drills and player development, providing opponent film breakdown and self-scouting. He assisted in strength and conditioning programs, academic meetings, and organized community service projects while assisting with recruiting in Madison and Jackson.
He left Jackson State for Hinds Community College to become the defensive line coach in 2023 where he assisted the head coach and defensive coordinator with team operations. He conducted practice drills and oversaw player development, while also recruiting for the program before leaving for a quality control position at Jackson State for the 2024 season.
Jackson lettered at Madison Central, leading the team to three state playoff appearances for Ted Taylor and Bobby Hall, before moving on to Holmes Community College where he earned All-State and Best Offensive Lineman honors. He lettered for the 2011 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champion Grambling State under Rob Broadway and Doug Williams.
A native of Detroit (Mich.), Jackson received his associate’s degree from Holmes Community College in 2009 before earning his bachelor’s in Criminal Justice from Grambling State, and he went on to earn a master’s degree from Grambling State.
