Danielle Mickens

Danielle N. Mickens joined the Jackson State University Division of Athletics staff in January 2020 as the head cheer coach.

She is currently in her seventh season with the program. In this role, Danielle oversees all personnel and aspects of the Jackson State University cheerleading program and provide leadership, innovative vision and strategic planning for an NCAA Division I institution, part of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.  In addition to, she plans and implements instructional practices that maximize the talent and potential of student-athletes while instilling values such as sportsmanship, academic achievement, and personal wellness. 

A native of Laurel, Mississippi, Danielle earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Jackson State in 2007 and a master’s degree in Health Services Administration from Strayer in 2016. She also cheered at Jackson State from Fall 2002 to Spring 2004. 

In 2023, she coached the first team in program history to  compete in the NCA Nationals Competition in Daytona, Florida, and the team is currently ranked Top 5 in the nation in the Intermediate Small Coed Division. 

Danielle currently works at the University of Mississippi Medical Center as a Procurement Manager with Purchasing/Supply Chain.Â
