Hernan Geria is currently in his second season as the men’s and women’s Head Coach of the Tigers. An alumnus of Jackson State University, Coach Geria has made significant strides with both teams.
In 2024, Geria led the Lady Tigers to a remarkable season, finishing as the Regular Season Champions with a 15-8 record, including an impressive 8-1 in conference play. His efforts were recognized with the 2024 Women’s Head Coach of the Year award. The men’s team also thrived under his guidance, reaching the SWAC Tournament final for the second consecutive year.
During his inaugural season in 2023, Geria achieved notable success by leading both the men’s and women’s teams to the SWAC Tournament final. Prior to becoming the Head Coach, Geria served as an assistant coach, where he played a pivotal role in the women’s tennis team’s success. In 2022, he helped the team secure their third SWAC Championship Tournament title in program history and an NCAA Tournament appearance, finishing with a 17-7 overall record and an undefeated 9-0 in conference play. The men’s team also excelled, finishing second in the conference standings and advancing to the SWAC Tournament championship.
Geria began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Jackson State University in August 2016. His early coaching tenure was marked by significant achievements, including helping the men’s team win the HBCU National Championship in 2017 and guiding the women’s team to second place finishes nationally in 2016 and 2017.
As a player, Geria was crucial in reclaiming the SWAC Championship title for the Tigers in 2016, ending a 15-year drought, and he participated in the NCAA Tournament that same year. Geria holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Management (2016) and a master’s in Business Administration (2018), both from Jackson State University.
