Alexis Stevenson joined the Jackson State University Division of Athletics staff in February 2021, serving in the role of Assistant Athletics Director for Business and Travel.
In her role as Assistant Athletics Director for Business and Travel, Stevenson is responsible for monitoring all travel matters within the athletics department in the institution’s efforts to comply with standard operating procedures as required by the University, the Southwestern Athletic Conference, and the NCAA. This includes compiling and submitting University, SWAC and NCAA travel reports, while maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
Stevenson serves as the athletics staff’s liaison to the University’s Purchasing, Transportation and Business Office. In that regard, she is tasked with resolving any conflicts and addressing any problems with various constituencies. She also assists the Athletics Business Manager with the fiscal management of athletics events, including game day reconciliation of revenue.
Prior to joining the Division of Athletics staff, Stevenson worked in Jackson State’s Housing and Residence Life Department, serving as Residence Hall Building Director for three years from February 2018 to February 2021. That position saw her promote an environment in the community that supports the academic mission of the University and the mission of Housing and Residence Life. She coordinated the development of activities and programs with the residence halls that supported the educational goals of the department. In addition to managing the distribution of keys, key card systems and residence hall rules, she also selected, trained, supervised, and evaluated graduate and undergraduate student staff members.
From July 2017 to February 2018, Stevenson was a Student Life Advisor for the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts in Natchitoches, La., engaging with students in a wide range of cultural, educational, leadership, recreational, social and wellness activities, and encouraging them to make positive choices, build lasting friendships and search for a sense of balance between academic and personal growth.
At Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, Miss., Stevenson held two positions. From August 2016 to May 2017, she served as Resident Advisor in the Residence Life Department, before becoming Program Assistant in the University College’s Summer\ Development program from May 2017 to July 2017.
Stevenson is an active member of the College Athletics Business Management Association, the Mississippi Association of Housing Officers, where she served as Communications Coordinator from 2019-21, the Southeastern Association of Housing Officers, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., serving as Chapter President from 2016-17.
Stevenson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Mississippi Valley State in May 2017, and a Master of Business Administration degree from Jackson State in May 2020.
