Malone Silver

Malone Silver joined Jackson State University Division of Athletics in August 2021 as the Assistant Athletic Director for Academics.

During his time as the Assistant Athletic Director for Academics, Malone oversaw all areas of student-athlete support including academic advising and student-athlete development. He was promoted to Associate Athletic Director for Academics and Compliance in February, 2023 to oversee both the academic and compliance areas. Under his leadership, Jackson State University Athletics Department has achieved academic success and has been publicly recognized for It’s NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR) during the 2022-2023 NCAA GSR release, Jackson State University Athletics posted an 89% Graduation Success Rate which was the highest amongst all HBCUs and the third highest in the state of Mississippi.

In June 2024 Silver was appointed to the NCAA Division I Legislative Committee where his primary responsibility will be to review and make recommendations to the NCAA Division I Council.  

Malone comes to Jackson State University after spending three years at the University of South Carolina. During his time at South Carolina as the Football Academic Advisor, Malone helped the Gamecocks football team earn over a 3.0 semester GPA in four of the last six semesters. During the Spring 2021 semester, the football program earned the 4th highest program GPA ever with a 3.022 and earned the 2nd highest Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) at 89 percent. During the Fall 2020 semester, 20 football student-athletes had already earned their undergraduate degrees. 

Prior to Malone’s role at South Carolina, he served stints at Middle Tennessee State University working within Athletic Marketing and Gameday Operations, and at Prairie View A&M University where he served as the Academic Advisor for the football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball teams. Malone also oversaw all student-athlete development initiatives for the athletic department.

A native of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, Malone earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from Elizabeth City State University, and his master’s degree in Sports Management from American Public University. During his time at Elizabeth City State University Malone competed as a member of the football team in the CIAA Conference. In 2018, Malone received the N4A Professional Promise Award at the NACDA Conference Convention for his hard work and dedication serving student-athletes.

Malone is a member of the National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD), the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A), The National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC), NCAA Effective Facilitation Workshop Cohort Member (2017) and is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
