Sam Houston State Squeezes Past Jackson State

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Chris Howell scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to record the double-double as Sam Houston State (2-3, 0-0 Southland) defeated Jackson State (0-3, 0-0 SWAC) 75-60 Monday afternoon.

The Tigers shot the ball exceptionally well from the field and connected on 40.8 percent (20-of-49) of their shots.

JSU found success in the paint and dropped 20 points and forced 19 turnovers, which the Tigers turned into 17 points.

Venji Wallis added 13 points on 3-of-8 shooting from the field. Wallis also converted six free throws and grabbed a pair of rebounds.

Lemmie Howard came off the bench and scored nine points and Hunter Shelton added eight points off the bench.

JSU returns to action Tuesday morning versus Chicago State.
