Box Score JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Four student-athletes scored in double figures to lead the Jackson State men's basketball team past Chicago State 81-68 at the final day of the Cayman Island Classic Mainland Invitational.
The Tigers (1-4, 0-0 SWAC) shot 52 percent (17-of-33) in the first half and went into halftime with a 42-26 lead.
JSU outrebounded CSU (1-7, 0-0 WAC) 43-34 and outscored the Cougars in second-chance points 18-2. The Tigers also forced 15 turnovers, which was promptly turned into 19 points.
The Blue and White showcased its depth and outscored the Cougars 40-23 off the bench.
Chris Howell recorded a double-double for the second game in a row and scored a team-high 17 points while hauling in 11 rebounds. Howell also handed out five assists.
Lemmie Howard came off the bench and dropped 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field. Howard also went 2-of-4 from three-point range.
Vanji Wallis added 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor. Wallis also went a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.
Jontrell Walker, who also came off the bench, scored 13 points and dished out three assists.
For the game, JSU shot 84.6 percent (11-of-13) from the stripe.
The Tigers return to the hardwood Sunday at the University of San Diego
