Lemmie Howard dropped a game-high 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting as San Diego defeated Jackson State 76-58 Saturday evening.
The first half was evenly matched, and USD went into the break with a narrow 35-31 lead. For the half, the Tigers (1-5, 0-0 SWAC) shot 40 percent (12-of-30) from the field.
The Toreros (5-1, 0-0 WCC) turned the pressure on in the second half and outscored JSU 41-27. USD connected on 52.4 percent (11-of-21) of its shots from the floor in the stanza. For the game, the Toreros shot 44.9 percent (22-of-49) while the Tigers converted 43.1 percent (25-of-58) of its shots.
Jontrell Walker came off the bench to score 10 points and
Dontelius Ross added eight points.
Jayveous McKinnis grabbed a game-high nine points while adding six points.
The Tigers return to action Tuesday at San Diego State.
