Box Score SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Despite shooting a sterling 50.9 percent (28-of-55) from the field, Santa Clara (2-5, 0-0 WCC) narrowly defeated Jackson State 81-70.
The Tigers (1-7, 0-0 SWAC) used a well-balanced offensive attack and four student-athletes finished in double figures.
Jontrell Walker came off the bench and dropped a team-high 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. He also added three trey balls and finished 2-for-2 at the charity stripe.
Chris Howell scored 16 points while handing out a game-high five assists.
Justin Johnson added 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor.
The Tigers finished 9-for-11 from the free-throw line. Conversely, the Broncos went to the charity stripe 32 times and converted 25 attempts.
