Chris Howell scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to post the double-double as Murray State defeated Jackson State 74-57 Saturday evening in non-conference action
JSU falls to 2-9 and MSU improves to 7-1 on the season.
As a team JSU, shot 31.7 percent (20-of-63) from the field, while the Racers connected on 41.8 percent (23-of-55) of their attempts from the floor.
The Tigers forced MSU into 15 turnovers, which was promptly turned into 16 points. JSU also showcased its depth as its bench outscored the Racers 31-25.
The Blue and White played well in the paint and out-rebounded MSU 42-39 and recorded 16 offensive rebounds. JSU also scored 26 points in the paint.
In 16 minutes of action,
William Brown added nine points and recorded three steals.
Freshman
Jayveous McKinnis added six points and six rebounds, while
Dontelius Ross dropped five points and handed out a team-high four assists.
The Tigers return next Saturday at Central Michigan and return home December 29 and host Miles College at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center.
