Jayveous McKinnis scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to post the double-double as Central Michigan edged the Jackson State men's basketball team 81-71 Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers (2-10) shot the ball well in the first half and connected on 53.6 percent (15-of-28) of their shots from the field and trailed CMU (10-2) 35-34 at the break.
JSU struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the second half and shot 36.6 percent (15-of-41) from the floor, while the Chippewas converted 58.6 percent (17-of-29) of their attempts.
Senior
Chris Howell scored 19 points and hauled in nine rebounds. The Milwaukee, Wisconsin native also went 3-for-4 at the charity stripe. Junior
Venjie Wallis turned in 19 points and handed out four assists. The 6-foot-6 guard also went 3-for-4 at the free-throw line.
The Tigers dominated in the paint and outscored CMU 44-34 and won the rebounding battle 39-34.
JSU also added 20 second-chance points and scored 11 points off the bench.
The Tigers return to the hardwood Saturday, December 29 versus Miles College. Tip is set for 7 p.m. at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center.
