Jackson State and Prairie View Go Down to the Wire

Box Score PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Junior Venjie Wallis dropped a game-high 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field, as Prairie View A&M narrowly defeated Jackson State 55-51 Saturday evening in Southwestern Athletic Conference action.
 
PV improved to 6-11 overall and 4-0 in SWAC play, while JSU sits at 6-11 and 3-2 in conference action.
 
JSU held the lead for over 32 minutes and a PV bucket with 2:31 remaining started a 5-1 run, which the Tigers were not able to overcome.
 
The Tigers came out of the gates quickly and used an efficient offense to build an early lead and led 31-23 at intermission.
 
The Blue and White shot 44 percent (12-of-27) from the field in the first half and held the Panthers to 36 percent (9-of-25) from the floor.
 
JSU found success in the paint with 24 points, while the bench added 19 points.
 
Senior Chris Howell scored eight points and hauled in a game-high 13 rebounds, narrowly missing the double-double.
 
Freshman Jayveous McKinnis added eight points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field.
 
The Tigers return to the court Monday for a 6 p.m. game at Texas Southern. It will be broadcasted on ESPNU.
