HOUSTON – Senior and Jackson native
Dontelius Ross dropped a team-high 17 points as Texas Southern defeated Jackson State 75-65 Monday evening in Southwestern Athletic Conference action.
TSU improves to 8-10 and 3-2 in the SWAC, while JSU stands at 6-13 and 3-3 in conference play.
JSU found it's scoring touch in the first half. The Tigers shot 55.2 percent (16-of-29) from the field, including an impressive 6-of-11 from three-point range.
In the second half, JSU had plenty of open looks, but the buckets would not fall. The Blue and White converted 30.8 percent (8-of-26) of its attempts. For the game, JSU shot 43.6 percent (24-of-55) from the floor.
Senior
Jontrell Walker came off the bench and provided a sterling effort. The Aurora, Illinois product scored 16 points and hit four three pointers.
Junior
Venjie Wallis added nine points, while freshman
Jayveous McKinnis scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds. Senior
Chris Howell chipped in seven points and seven rebounds.
JSU returns to the hardwood Saturday at Grambling.
