HOUSTON – Four student-athletes scored in double figures and Jackson State's fourth-quarter rally fell short as Texas Southern held off Jackson State 76-67 Monday afternoon in Southwestern Athletic Conference action.
TSU improved to 6-10 and 2-3 in the SWAC, while JSU stands at 5-12 and 1-5 in conference play.
Junior Marniesha Hamer scored 11 points and recorded 13 rebounds for the double-double.
Senior
Christina Ellis dropped 12 on 4-of-11 shooting from the field. The San Diego native also converted 4-of-7 attempts at the free-throw line.
Sophomore
D'Asia Mitchell came off the bench and provided instant offense. The Natchez native also scored 12 points and grabbed three rebounds in 23 minutes of action.
Junior
Sumer Williams added 11 points and hauled in eight boards to nearly claim the double-double.
As a team JSU shot 36.8 percent (25-of-68) from the field.
Overall, the Lady Tigers received a great effort from their bench with 33 points.
The Blue and White return to action Saturday at Grambling.
