The Jackson State men's basketball team completes a three-game road swing Saturday at Grambling State. The match-up is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.

Defense Tough as Nails

Quality defense has been the Tigers staple this season. JSU allows an average of 67.7 points per game, which is ranked first in the conference. That's nearly three points lower than the second-best defense in the conference, Alcorn State, which allows 67.7 points per contest.

Howell, Wallis a 1-2 Punch

Senior Chris Howell and junior Venjie Wallis have proven to be offensive threats for the Tigers. Howell, a Milwaukee native averages 11.6 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. Howell leads the conference in average rebounds per game and his 156 total boards also rank first in the SWAC.

Wallis, a Houma, Louisiana native averages 11.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Wallis, a 6-foot-6 combo guard does a lot of his damage in the lane with high-percentage shots. Wallis is shooting 44.2 percent (69-of-156) from the field.

Walker the 6th Man

Senior Jontrell Walker role is to come off the bench and provide instant offense, which has stood true. The Aurora, Illinois native is averaging 9.4 points per game. Last weekend at Texas Southern, Walker converted four three-pointers to keep JSU in the hunt.

McKinnis Not the Average Freshman

Jayveous McKinnis may be a freshman, but the Brandon, Mississippi native is an important part of the Tigers plans this season and into the future. The 6-foot-7 forward averages 8.2 points and 8 rebounds per game. McKinnis is also converting 67.1 percent (55-of-82) of his attempts from the field.
