Hampton Continues to Shine

Keonte Hampton earned his second-straight SWAC Defensive Player of the Week award.
Â
Hampton followed up a solid outing last week with another impressive performance versus Prairie View A&M on Thursday live on ESPNU. He finished the game with 11 tackles, nine solo stops and three sacks in Jackson State's 38-35 overtime win over the Panthers.

The West Point, Mississippi native leads the SWAC in several statistical categories: tackles (81), solo tackles (58) and tackles per game (10.1).

John Hendrick has not made it a secret that the Tigers will attempt to establish the running game. In the 31-28 overtime win over MVSU, the Tigers rushed for 191 yards, with 174 coming from freshman
Kymani Clarke. In the 38-35 double-overtime win over Prairie View, the Tigers rushed for 222 yards, with
Keshawn Harper gutting the Panthers for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

In overtime, JSU had 14 offensive snaps and elected to run the ball 12 times.

Receivers Emerging

Junior wide receiver
Warren Newman has turned into a focal point of the Tigers' offense. A threat to score whenever he touches the ball, the New Orleans native has turned in a team-high 34 receptions for 316 yards and four touchdowns. The 5-foot-8, 170-pounder also has three rush attempts for 29 yards and a punt return for a touchdown. Sophomore
DD Bowie continues to improve and leads the team in receiving yards with 334 to go with a pair of touchdowns. Junior
Daniel Crowell is coming into his own and has tallied 198 yards and one touchdown.

Scouting UAPB

UAPB is a balanced football team. The Golden Lions rank third in the conference in offense and average 34 points per contest. UAPB's defense is formidable and is fifth in the conference and allows an average 29.1 points a game.

On offense, the Golden Lions will look to Shannon Patrick. The junior has completed 66 percent of his passes for 1743 yards and 15 touchdowns. He has also tossed 10 interceptions.

UAPB's running back tandem of Taeyler Porter and Keshawn Williams has sparked the Golden Lions rushing attack. Porter has rushed for 755 yards and 10 touchdowns, while Williams has run for 339 yards and three touchdowns.

The Golden Lions have talent at receiver. Harry Ballard III has a team-high 44 receptions to go with 705 yards receiving and eight touchdowns. Dejuan Miller has snagged 30 receptions for 534 yards and four touchdowns.

Defensively, Blake Conner leads UAPB with 56 tackles, two forced fumbles, and one interception. Xavier Mitchell has totaled 31 tackles and three sacks.
