Tigers Head to Las Vegas for Matchup with UNLV

JACKSON, Miss. – Jackson State men's basketball is coming off of a 72-53 win over Southern University at New Orleans on Friday night and will to continue that momentum into tomorrow's game with UNLV in Las Vegas Nevada.

The Tigers (1-5) are averaging 67.3 points per game on 151-of-372 (40 percent) shots from the field thus far through six games in the season.

Jackson State has two players who are averaging double-digit points with Tristan Jarrett averaging 16.7 ppg and Jayveous McKinnis with 12 points per game.

Jarrett also is tied for the team lead with 10 steals along with Cainan McClelland. McKinnis averages a team-best eight rebounds and already has one double-double on the season. McKinnis leads Jackson State with 11 blocked shots.

Jonas James is averaging just shy of 10 points per game with a 9.8 ppg average.

The Tigers will take on a UNLV team that currently sits with a record of 2-5 overall with wins over Purdue Fort Wayne and Abilene Christian.
The team's losses include to two overtime losses to Kansas State and California with other losses to Texas State, SMU, and UCLA.

UNLV through seven games is averaging 66.9 points per game on 42.6 percent shooting (163-of-383) from the field.

The Rebels are led by Amauri Hardy with 18.0 ppg and 3.3 rpg. UNLV has two additional players outside of Hardy that are averaging ten or more points a game in Donnie Tillman (12.6 ppg) and Elijah Mitrou-Long (11.3 ppg).

Cheikh Mbacke Diong has been a force underneath the rim, bringing down 10.3 boards a game and 7.7 ppg.

The Runnin' Rebels of UNLV are coached by head coach T.J. Otzelberger and assisted by assistant coaches Tim Buckley, Kevin Kruger, and Demarlo Slocum.
Otzelberger took over the UNLV basketball program in 2019 after a previous three-year stint at South Dakota State in which he finished with a 70-33 record overall with two NCAA berths and one NIT berth.

Jackson State and UNLV go head to head tomorrow at 9 p.m. (CT) and 7 p.m. (PT) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
