Lancers Pull Away Late to Defeat Tigers in Season Opener

RIVERSIDE, Calif. –  Tristan Jarrett scored a team-high 22 points on 9-of-20 shooting from the field versus Cal Baptist on Tuesday night on the west coast, as the Lancers defeated Jackson State 82-46 to open the 2019-20 season.

Preseason SWAC Defensive Player of the Year recipient, Jayveous McKinnis, scored 10 points while finishing with a team-high 12 rebounds for the Blue and White.

Jevon Smith played in 17 minutes, producing 10 points after finishing 4-of-8 from the field.

Junior, Miles Daniels added a team-high three 3-pointers made (3-of-9) including nine points in 23 minutes of action.

Jonas James collected eight points, while Khalil Spencer and Venji Wallis had four and three points apiece, respectively. 

As a team, the Tigers had 38 points in the paint and 34 points off of the bench. JSU led for 14:20 minutes of the game before ultimately falling to the Lancers. 

The Blue and White shot 37.1 percent (26-of-70) from the field, while Cal Baptist shot 48.4 percent (30-of-62) rom the floor.

JSU returns to the court tomorrow afternoon versus UC Santa Barbara in Santa Barbara, Calif. Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. (CST).
