JACKSON, Miss. – Junior
Dayzsha Rogan dropped a career-high 23 points to lead the Jackson State women's basketball team past Louisiana 65-54 Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
It's also the Lady Tigers first win versus a Sun Belt Conference team under Coach Reed.
JSU improved to 2-8 and ULL falls to 7-3 on the year.
After one-quarter of play the Blue and White led 11-7, however, JSU took it to a different level in the second quarter and outscored the Ragin' Cajuns 24-9.
As a team, JSU shot 56.2 percent (9-of-16) from the field in the second quarter and went into halftime with a 35-16 lead.
The Lady Tigers withstood a second-half rally and outscored ULL 8-0 in the final 1:25 to secure the win.
Ieisha Lacey added 14 points and recorded four steals, while
Marneisha Hamer scored nine points and hauled in nine rebounds to narrowly miss the double-double.
JSU dominated in front of the basket and scored 34 points in the paint while out-rebounding their opponent 45-36.
The Lady Tigers open conference play next Saturday and host Alabama State.
