WACO, Texas - Jackson State fell at No. 6 Baylor on Monday afternoon by a final score of 83-57 on ESPN+.
Roland Griffin in just his fourth game played on the season, second as a starter, led Jackson State with 16 points scored on 6-of-13 shooting from the field. He also finished with a team best two made three pointers, finishing 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.
For the first three minutes of the game, Jackson State kept the Bears to a scoreless tie of 0-0, controlling the offensive boards from the start. Eight minutes into the game, JSU led the No. 6 in the country 8-7 before Baylor went ahead 13-8. The Bears went on to show why they were a top-10 ranked team in the nation as they went on to cruise to a 48-24 halftime lead and ultimately the 83-57 victory.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 3-10 overall, as Baylor improved to 10-1.Â
Tristan Jarrett had 13 points and
Venjie Wallis tallied 10 points. Both Jarrett and Wallis had four field goals made each, respectively.Â
Jayveous McKinnis led the Tigers with 12 rebounds while Griffin had seven rebounds.Â
Jackson State turns its attention to Saturday where they will open up SWAC play at home with a 3 p.m. matchup versus Alabama State at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.Â
