Box Score BATON ROUGE, La. – Junior Venjie Wallis scored a game-high 23 points as Southern defeated Jackson State 76-67 Monday evening in Southwestern Athletic Conference action.
 
Southern improved to 4-20 and 3-8 in the SWAC, while JSU falls to 9-15 and 6-5 in the conference.
 
Sophomore Lemmie Howard added a season-high 15 points and picked up five rebounds, while freshman Jayveous McKinnis dropped 10 points and hauled in 12 rebounds to post the double-double.
 
Senior Chris Howell chipped in nine points and grabbed two rebounds.
 
As a team JSU shot 37 percent (20-of-54) from the field and converted 21-of-30 of its free-throw attempts.
 
JSU returns to the court Saturday and plays host to Prairie View at 5:30 p.m. at the AAC.
