Belhaven Tops JSU in Doubleheader

Series was moved to Belhaven's campus due to unplayable field conditions

JACKSON – Belhaven defeated Jackson State 4-3 and 5-4 in a pair of close softball games Wednesday afternoon. The games were originally scheduled to be played at the JSU Softball Complex but was moved to Belhaven due to unplayable field conditions.
 
Game 1: Belhaven 4, Jackson State 3
 
The Blazers scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the game.
 
Senior Alexis Hansard went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI while fellow senior Kelsey Smith went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
 
Junior Sierra Smith drew a pair of walks and scored three runs.
 
Sophomore Kayla Owens tossed a complete game and scattered five hits and allowed four runs (two earned) and one walk and one strike out.
 
Game 2: Belhaven 5, Jackson State 4
 

The Blazers used a five-run sixth inning to defeat the Tigers.
 
Junior Cheyenne Aplon delivered a two-run home run and Smith added a two RBI double to put the Lady Tigers up 4-0.
 
Senior Nava Fisher batted 2-for-3 with a run scored.
 
Freshman Destyn Jones tossed 5 2/3 innings and allowed five hits, five runs (four earned) and three walks and fanned three batters.
 
JSU returns to action this weekend at the UL-Lafayette Tournament and open Friday with a match-up with Stephen F. Austin at 12:30 and play tournament-host UL-Lafayette at 3 p.m.
