JACKSON – Texas Southern defeated Jackson State 77-65 Monday evening in Southwestern Athletic Conference action at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center.
The Blue and White fall to 9-17 and 6-7 in SWAC play, while Texas Southern improved to 14-11 and 9-3 in conference play.
JSU led TSU for the majority of the game, but a second-half TSU rally subdued the Tigers.
Seniors
Chris Howell and
Jontrell Walker each finished with tied with a team-high 16 points.
Junior
Venjie Wallis added 14 points and five rebounds. The 6-foot-7 combo guard also handed out a team-high five assists.
Jackson native
Dontelius Ross had six points and four assists.
Sophomore
Lemmie Howard scored six points, grabbed four rebounds, two steals, one block, and one assist.
Freshman and Brandon native
Jayveous McKinnis pulled down seven rebounds, added four points to the board, and stole the ball twice.
JSU returns to the hardwood Saturday for a 5:30 p.m. tilt versus Grambling.
