Five Student-Athletes Score in Double-Digits as JSU Crushes GSU and Completes Regular-Season Sweep


JACKSON – The Jackson State women's basketball team absolutely dominated Grambling State 89-60 Saturday afternoon in Southwestern Athletic Conference action at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center.
 
JSU completes the regular-season sweep over GSU. The Blue and White improves to 12-13 and 8-6 in the SWAC, while Grambling falls to 12-14 and 9-5 within the conference.
 
Junior Marneisha Hamer controlled the tempo in the paint and dropped 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, both game highs. Fellow junior Kaisah Lucky added 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native also did a great job distributing the rock with a game-high eight assists and picking up four steals.
 
Senior Christina Ellis picked up 13 points and handed out two assists. Ellis, who primarily guards the opposing team's best player, kept GSU's Shakyla Hill in check. Hill, who entered the contest the contest averaging 18.6 points per game was held to 13 points and turned the ball over 10 times.
 
Sophomore Antionette Womack and freshman Taylor Lattimore each picked to 10 points.
 
JSU dominated in the paint and outscored GSU 40-24 and won the rebounding battle 47-28.
 
The Lady Tigers also forced GSU into 23 turnovers, which JSU promptly turned into 23 points.
 
The Blue and White's offense worked like a well-oiled machine and shot 56.6 percent (35-of-62) from the field, while holding GSU to 33.3 percent (20-of-60) from the floor.
 
JSU is off Monday and returns to action Saturday at Mississippi Valley State.
