HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Central Arkansas defeated Jackson State 9-3 Friday afternoon in the season-opener for the Lady Tigers.
JSU (0-1) started the game with three runs in the top of the first inning.
UCA (1-0) added two runs in the second inning and a run in the third frame to tie the game at 3-3.
The Bears added five runs in the bottom of the fifth and a run in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Kelsey Smith batted 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run. Sophomore
Kayla Owens went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Owens also started in the circle for the Lady Tigers. Owens tossed 4 2/3 innings and allowed 11 hits and eight runs (six earned) and four walks and fanned two batters.
JSU returns to action Saturday versus Central Arkansas and first pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
