ATLANTA, Ga. – A six-run first inning propelled Jackson State past Grambling State 11-3 in a non-conference tilt at the 2019 HBCU Softball Tournament.

Alexis Hansard started the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI double and
Madelyn Prukop would then score on an error.
Yasmin Melero followed with a two RBI triple.
In the third frame, JSU scored on a pair of bases-loaded walks and extended the lead to 8-1.
Hansard batted 2-for-3 with three RBI and scored a pair of runs and drew one walk. Kierra Smith batted 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and drew one walk.
The Lady Tigers out-hit GSU 7-5 and also drew nine walks.
Kayla Owens earned the win. The sophomore tossed four innings and scattered three hits, allowed one run, did not walk a batter and fanned four.
In the second game of the day, Savannah State defeated JSU 9-4.
