Jackson State Blasts Grambling State, 10-2

JACKSON – Jackson State pounded out 13 hits and routed Grambling State 10-2 in a mid-season non-conference tilt Tuesday afternoon at Braddy Field.
 
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning, JSU found its offensive groove. 

Raul Hernandez started the frame with a single to center field and Dezmond Chumley then added a sacrifice bunt to advance Hernandez to second base.
 
Rahman Williams and Tyler Culpepper singled and walked to load the bases. 

Marshal Luiz then grounded out to second base to score Hernandez.
 
Chandler Dillard delivered a two-RBI single up the middle and led 3-2, a lead it would not relinquish.
 
JSU built on its lead in the bottom of the third inning. Hernandez started it with an RBI double to right center and Culpepper added an RBI. Marshal Luiz then added an RBI single and Culpepper scored on an error and the Tigers opened a 7-2 advantage.
 
The Blue and White added three runs in the eighth inning.
 
Wesley Reyes delivered a bases-clearing, two RBI triple and Equon Smith produced an RBI.
 
Mario Lopez entered in relief picked up the win. The Miami native tossed six and two-thirds, scattered five hits and walked one batter and fanned nine batters. 

Kevin Perez tossed the final inning and did not allow a hit and struck out two batters.

Jaylyn Williams batted 4-for-5 and scored a run and Hernandez finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
 
JSU returns to action Friday and hosts Alabama State at 6 p.m.
