ITTA BENA, Miss. – Mississippi Valley State defeated Jackson State 60-57 Saturday evening in Southwestern Athletic Conference action.
MVSU improved to 6-24 and 4-12 in the SWAC, while JSU is 10-18 and 7-8 in the conference.
Venjie Wallis scored a team-high 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the floor. The junior also grabbed eight rebounds and recorded a pair of steals.
Jontrell Walker came off the bench and provided instant offense. The Aurora, Illinois native totaled 14 points and was 4-of-8 from beyond the arc.
Senior
Chris Howell posted 13 points hauled in eight rebounds. The Milwaukee product also notched three steals to go with a block.
As a team, the Tigers shot 39,9 percent (13-of-33) from the floor. JSU scored 22 points in the paint to go with 11 second-chance points.
JSU returns to the hardwood Monday at UAPB. The tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
