JACKSON – Senior
Christina Ellis scored a game-high 18 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field to lead Jackson State past Alabama State 78-58 on Senior Night.
With the win, JSU will officially finish the season with a record of .500 or higher. The Lady Tigers have cliched the No. 3 seed in the SWAC tournament and will take its 16-13 record into an opening round match-up versus Alabama State. The tip is set for 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center.
Junior
Sumer Williams scored 12 points and handed out three assists and recorded three steals. Fellow junior
Kaisah Lucky added nine points, which came on 9-of-10 attempts at the free-throw line.
Junior
Marneisha Hamer added 10 points and grabbed six rebounds, while
D'Asia Mitchell dropped eight points and was 2-of-4 from three-point range. Senior
Chelsea Causey added seven points and hauled in eight rebounds.
JSU dominated in front of the rim with 36 rebounds to go with 40 points in the paint. The Lady Tigers also received 32 points from their bench and turned 17 forced turnovers into 20 points.
The Blue and White shot 45.2 percent (28-of-62) from the field, while holding the Hornets to 38.2 percent (21-of-55).
