MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A ninth-inning rally short at Alabama State defeated Jackson State 7-6 Saturday afternoon in the series finale between the two programs.
JSU (27-20, 13-8 SWAC) trailed 7-3 to begin the final frame and
Rahman Williams delivered a 2 RBI double down the left field line to push across to runs.
Marshal Luiz then drew a bases-loaded walk to bring the Tigers to within one before the Hornets (25-20, 18-5 SWAC) closed out the game.
Raul Hernandez batted 3-for-5 with an RBI and
Tyler Culpepper finished 1-for-5 with an RBI.
Wesley Reyes finished 2-for-4 and scored a pair of runs.
Equon Smith,
Jaylyn Williams and
Dezmond Chumley each picked up a hit.
Anthony Becerra started and absorbed the loss. Becerra tossed 6.1 innings and allowed eight hits and seven runs (three earned) and fanned five batters.
The Tigers return to action Friday for game one of a three-game series at Alcorn State.
