JACKSON – The Jackson State baseball team routed Rust College 15-1 and 15-4 to conclude a three-game series Sunday afternoon at Braddy Field.
Today's noon match-up was a continuation from Saturday night, which was suspended due to lighting.
The Tigers jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back. As a team, JSU produced 13 hits and 10 runs batted in.
Tyler Jones batted 1-for-1 with a bases-clearing triple. Jones also scored a run.
Chris Prentiss batted 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI from the leadoff position. Prentiss also stole a base.
Wesley Reyes batted 1-for-4 with two RBI.
Equon Smith,
Jaylyn Williams and
Dezmond Chumley each added an RBI.
Mario Lopez earned the win. The Miami native threw 3.0 innings and allowed one hit and no runs and walked one batter and fanned another.
In game two the Tigers' dominance continued.
JSU opened up a 10-0 third-inning lead.
Reyes batted 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.
Tyler Culpepper finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and scored two runs.
Sam Nastari batted 2-for-3, including a home run.
Garth Cahill started and tossed five innings to earn the win. Cahill scattered two hits and did not allow a run while fanning four.
The Tigers, winners of five in a row, host Tougaloo on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
