MONTGOMERY, Ala. – In a rematch of opening round play, Texas Southern again outlasted Jackson State, this time by a score of 2-1 to move on in the 2019 Southwestern Athletic Conference Softball Tournament Friday afternoon.
Sophomore
Kayla Owens once again proved to be one of the most dominant in the SWAC. Owens tossed a complete game and scattered seven hits, allowed two runs (one earned) and did not walk a batter and struck out four.
Trailing 1-0 to start the seventh inning,
Sierra Smith singled through the left side to tie the game at 1-1.
Texas Southern won the game in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off throwing error.
Kaitlyn Elzie batted 2-for-2 and
Destyn Jones,
Yasmin Melero and
Nava Fisher each picked up a hit.
