HAMMOND, La. - The Jackson State Lady Tigers soccer team fell short to the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions on Friday afternoon.
After coming off of back to back losses to Troy and South Alabama, the blue and white did not have the start they had hoped for when facing SELU, giving up two goals within the first few minutes of play.
"We gave the match away in the opening ten minutes as we weren't ready to play" said head coach Dr. Ted Flogaites about the start of the contest.
"Let's just say that I am displeased with the manner in which we conceded the goals, we didn't make them work for it, but credit to Southeastern Louisiana for punishing us for our mistakes"
The Lady Lions, who entered Fridays matchup against the Tigers with a close 1-0 loss to Louisiana Tech and a 1-1 tie with Louisiana-Monroe, simply outplayed the Blue and White.
"They deserve the win, we didn't match their effort or desire. The match, our poor start, the sloppy goals we let in, all of that falls on my shoulders". The Lady Lions, a team that has played close with several top division I soccer programs and heads to #10 Tennessee next Thursday for an SEC Network game only scored four goals on twenty-five shot attempts.
The Tigers used two goalies on Friday and combined for nine saves against SELU.
The young team continues to grow up and face adversity through the first half of its schedule, but Coach Flogaites has different expectations for the program, as he continues to turn the ship back into the right direction in his first season.
"I didn't prepare us in the right manner to start the match. And upon examination I didn't prepare us to get after it and I'll take a hard look at myself to see where I'm falling short as the coach of this squad".
The Tigers will take a few days to correct a few things and then get back to work next Tuesday with a trip to Jonesboro, Ark. for a matchup with Arkansas State.
