CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO.- The Jackson State volleyball team fell to the Western Illinois Leathernecks on Saturday morning in the final game of the Southeast Missouri Volleyball Tournament. 

Jackson State and the Leathernecks were tied up in a close match through the first set at 14-14 before UWI began to put some distance between them and the Tigers. 

Jackson State continued to battle back and forth keeping the score close, trailing 24-22, yet an attacking error from the Tigers led to a set one defeat and WIU victory to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

WIU continued the momentum into set two after quickly jumping out a 10-3 and maintaining the advantage all the way through the set to win 25-14.

After trailing 2-0 in the first two sets the Tigers flipped the momentum in the third set and quickly started out to a 7-2 lead, looking poised to take control of the match.

However the Lady Leathernecks were able to string together a series of points to get back into the game, eventually regaining the lead at 14-11. 

WIU went on to win set three, 25-23, and claiming the overall match by a final of 3-0.

The Tigers, with the loss, have now slipped in four straight matches to fall to 3-4 overall on the season. 

STATS

Jylen Whitten led JSU with twelve kills in the match including nine digs. 

Camry Dabney and Kaiya Wall finished with five kills and four kills each, respectively.

Alana Washington capped off her performance with eleven total digs for a team high. 

Damassy Thompson led everyone with 17 total assists in the loss to UWI.

NEXT UP

The Lady Tigers return to T.B. Ellis on Tuesday with a matchup against Louisiana Tech for a high profile matchup with the Lady Bulldogs. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m
