JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State men's basketball team travels to Baton Rouge, La. to take on Southern University in SWAC play with tip-off set for 3 p.m.

Last Time Out
Roland Griffin had a game-high 27 points in a 76-65 win over Alcorn State on Saturday evening in SWAC play.

Additionally, Griffin led Jackson State with 12 rebounds and had six assists.

Venjie Wallis added 13 points, three 3-pointers, and three blocks

The Tigers leading scorer for the season, Tristan Jarrett, tallied 12 points on 4-of-15 shooting from the field. Jayveous McKinnis had eight points and three swats, while Jonas James had seven assists.

Jackson State finished 27-of-57 from the field as a team and 8-of-20 from three point land.

The Blue and White ended with 35 rebounds, 25 bench points and 36 points in the paint.

With the win, Jackson State improved to 5-11 overall and 2-1 in SWAC play. The Braves fell to 5-9 overall and 1-2 in the SWAC.

Top 10 Opponents

Throughout the 2019-20 season, the Tigers have faced off against two top 10 teams: No. 6 Baylor and No. 9 Memphis each back in the month of December. The Tigers were competitive in against both teams but ultimately fell in each contest.

Last Time Versus Southern (Feb. 11, 2019)

Venjie Wallis scored a game-high 23 points as Southern defeated Jackson State 76-67 Monday evening in Southwestern Athletic Conference action.

Lemmie Howard added a season-high 15 points and picked up five rebounds, while freshman Jayveous McKinnis dropped 10 points and hauled in 12 rebounds to post the double-double.

Chris Howell chipped in nine points and grabbed two rebounds.

As a team JSU shot 37 percent (20-of-54) from the field and converted 21-of-30 of its free-throw attempts.

Scouting Southern

Southern hosts Jackson State with an overall record of 3-13 and 0-3 in the SWAC ahead of Mondays contest. The Jaguars are comings off of a 61-56 loss to Grambling State Saturday afternoon.

Southern is coached by head coach Sean Woods who is in his second season at the helm of the Jaguars program. He became the 13th head coach for the program on April 12, 2018.

In year one, he led SU to a 7-24 overall record and 6-12 in SWAC play. He has compiled a 141-187 record in 10 seasons as a head coach including stops at SU, Morehead State (2012-16), and Mississippi Valley State (2008-12).
