JSU Defeats PVAMU to Begin SWAC Play 6-0 for First Time

JACKSON, Miss. –
Kaisah Lucky hit a pair of late free throws and scored a game-high 16 points as Jackson State defeated Prairie View A&M 53-49 Monday evening in a key Southwestern Athletic Conference bout.
 
The Lady Tigers improved to 8-8 overall and 6-0 in the SWAC. It's the first time in program history that JSU has started conference play 6-0.
 
"It means a lot and I'm fortunate to have a great staff and a team that has bought in," JSU head coach Tomekia Reed. "We are highly-favored. We pray as a staff and we pray as a team. Our goal isn't to win all of our games: it's to get better each game."
 
Marneisha Hamer dropped 11 points and went 5-for-5 at the charity stripe. She also secured eight rebounds.
 
Dayzsha Rogan scored six points and grabbed a game-high 10 boards and Ameshya Williams added six points to go with eight rebounds.
 
JSU dominated in front of the basket with 47 rebounds and 20 points in the paint. The Lady Tigers also grabbed 23 offensive rebounds which turned into 13 second-chance points.
 
The Blue and White forced 18 turnovers, which turned into 15 points.
 
JSU's staunch defense held PVAMU to 32.7 percent (17-of-52) from the floor.
 
The Lady Tigers return to the hardwood Saturday and host Grambling State at 3 p.m.
