JACKSON, Miss. – The Jackson State men's basketball team travels south to Lorman (Miss.) this weekend for a showdown with rival Alcorn State on Saturday in SWAC play.
 
Last Time Out
Tristan Jarrett led Jackson State with 16 total points on 6-of-17 shooting from the field in the Tigers 66-57 loss to Alabama A&M in conference play.

Jackson State had two players finish with double-doubles in Jarrett and Roland Griffin.

Jarrett tallied a team-high 12 rebounds on the night in 31 minutes of play to earn his first double-double of the season.

Griffin finished second on the team with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Jonas James had a stellar night with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting and three free throws made.

As a team, JSU was 21-of-53 shooting with 40 rebounds, 26 points in the paint, and 19 points.

The Tigers also received 21 points off the bench.

The loss set the Blue and White back to 4-11 overall and 1-1 in SWAC play. Alabama A&M improved to 4-9 and 1-1 in conference.

Top 10 Opponents
 
Throughout the 2019-20 season, the Tigers have faced off against two top 10 teams: No. 6 Baylor and No. 9 Memphis each back in the month of December. The Tigers were competitive in against both teams but ultimately fell in each contest. 

Last Time Versus Alcorn State

Venjie Wallis scored a team-high 13 points as Alcorn State used a late surge to defeat Jackson State 66-52  in Southwestern Athletic Conference action on Feb. 9, 2019.
 
Dontelius Ross dropped 12 points and handed out three assists and recorded three steals. Chris Howell added seven points and notched a pair of blocks.
 
Khalil Spencer and Jontrell Walker each scored four points.
 
As a team, JSU shot 36.2 percent (21-of-58) from the field. JSU also went 8-of-13 at the free-throw line.

Scouting Alcorn State
 
Alcorn State enters Saturdays contest with a current record of 5-8 overall and 1-1 in SWAC play after defeating Texas Southern by a final score of 95-80 this past Monday. The Braves lone conference loss of the season came on Saturday at the hands of Prairie View A&M by a score of 84-70.
 
Alcorn is averaging 77.5 points per game while allowing 74.8 points per game to opponents. 

The Braves have four shooters averaging double-digits through 13 games with Maurice Howard leading the way with 16.1 points per game. Howard also leads the Braves with 31 assists.

Other key scorers include Corey Tillery (13.5 ppg), Deshaw Andrews (11.8 ppg), and Troymain Crosby (11.4 ppg). Tillery has put together a team-high 18 steals.

Defensively, Kobe Wilson has been a force, leading the purple and gold in rebounds per game (6.1 rpg) and blocks (11 blocks).

The Braves are coached by head coach Montez Robinsonwho is in his fifth season at the helm of the program. He holds a current record of 59-79 overall and 40-34 in SWAC play.
