Box Score OXFORD, Miss. - The Jackson State Lady Tigers came up short Tuesday night in non-conference play, falling to Ole Miss on the road.
The Lady Rebs jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first three minutes of play to start the game, yet the Lady Tigers rallied for an 8-2 run over the next four minutes cut the lead to 10-8.
Ole Miss closed out the first quarter on an 8-4 run to take an 18-12 lead into the second quarter of play. The second quarter went in the way of the Lady Rebs as Ole Miss outscored JSU 25-14 in the second quarter to take a 43-26 lead into the break.
Jariyah Covington paced the Lady Tigers in the first half, scoring nine points through the first twenty-minutes of play.
Covington and
Dayzsha Rogan led Jackson State offensively in the third quarter with four and seven points scored, respectively. The Lady Tigers trailed 67-40 heading into the final quarter of play.
Jackson State opened the fourth quarter on a 10-0 run to cut the score to 67-50. The Lady Rebs went on the defeat Jackson State 89-65.
Covington finished with 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field.
Dayzsha Rogan tallied 23 points and team best three assists. She also added two steals.
WNBA prospect,
Ameshya Williams, had seven points and eight rebounds in 16 minutes of play. Williams, who ranked 11th in the country in blocked shots (14) coming into the game finished with one blocked shot.
As a team, the Lady Tigers finished 19-of-51 shooting from the field. The Lady Tigers also had 30 bench points and 20 points in the paint.
The loss dropped the Lady Tigers to 1-4 overall on the season. JSU takes the court on Sunday on the road at Tennessee. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m in Knoxville, Tenn.
