GAME 3 RECAP: LOUISIANA TECH
Jackson State fell to 0-3 to begin the season, falling to Louisiana Tech Tuesday night in non-conference play. Through the first four minutes of play, Jackson State held a slight 9-7 lead over the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech. The two teams remained in a tight contest, with LaTech taking a 19-17 lead midway through the first half of play. LaTech controlled the final ten minutes of the first half, finishing up the half on a 28-10 run to take a 47-27 into the break. McKinnis led Jackson State with nine points and six rebounds at the half.
Tristan Jarrett and
Darius Hicks had six points and five points at the break. Louisiana Tech went on to outpace the Tigers in the final half of play, 30-18, to ultimately defeat Jackson State 85-58 on the night.Â
Tristan Jarrett finished the night with 12 points scored on 4-of-9 shooting from the field. Jarrett also have five rebounds and three steals on the night. Junior,
Jayveous McKinnis finished with his second double double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the contest. It was his second game in a row to record a double-double. McKinnis led the Tigers with three blocked shots.
Jonas James scored 12 points on the night on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. James tallied three steals in the matchup. As a team, Jackson State shot 24-of-60 from the floor. The Tigers had 34 points in the paint and 25 points bench points.

Jayveous McKinnis was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. McKinnis averaged 9.3 points per game and led the league in blocks at 1.9 per outing and served as key factor for a JSU defense that ranked second in the league in points allowed per game (67.4 ppg). McKinnis averaged 9.5 points per game and led the league in blocks at 1.9 per outing in 32 total games played. He also paced the league in rebounds during regular season play tallying 9.3 rebounds per outing while ranking seventh in average minutes played per game (30.3 mpg).
Tristan Jarrett was named Preseason Player of the Year heading into the 2020-21 season by league administrators and coaches. Last season, Jarrett averaged 16.8 points per game ranking second in the conference in that category. He also contributed 3.3 rebounds per game to go along with 1.8 assists per outing in 32 total games played. One of the league's most prolific scorers, Jarrett tallied a minimum of twenty-points in 11 games last season while eclipsing the thirty-point mark twice during the regular season in back-to-back outings. Jarrett was also tabbed as a Preseason All-SWAC First Team selection.

Ari Boya anchored the defense with 11 rebounds and three blocks. The Braves dominated from start to finish, using an early 9-0 run to grab the lead for good and forcing a Lewis timeout just 3:24 into the contest. After the Braves answered a Flyers 3-pointer with one of their own, the Flyers would never be within seven points the remainder of the game. Bradley led by as many as 17 points in the first before heading into the locker room with a 42-29 halftime lead. Bradley continued its dominance in the second half, pushing its advantage to 20 points just over six minutes into the period before finishing off the 95-62 victory. Bradley shot a season-best 56.7 percent in the winning effort, while making 45.8 percent from 3-point range (11-24). The Braves also controlled the game with 21 fast-break points – the team's highest total in more than 10 years.The Braves, meanwhile, held the Flyers to 39.1 percent shooting with Bradley winning the battle on the boards, 45-27. The Braves take a break for finals and return to action on Thursday, Dec. 17 against Jackson State. Tipoff at Carver Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m.
