Combined No-Hitter Carries Jackson State to Sweep over Lemoyne-Owen


JACKSON, Miss. – Jackson State swept Lemoyne-Owen by scores of 21-4 and 8-2 Tuesday afternoon.
 
Game two of the twin bill Harry Colon, Rauvardo Torres, Mario Lopez and Steven Davila combined to throw a no-hitter.
 
Colon started and tossed 3.0 innings and struck out six batters and walked four. Torres threw 1.2 innings; Lopez earned the win and went 1.1 innings and Davila completed the no-hitter with an inning of action.
 
Equon Smith batted 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI, Jaylyn Williams went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI and Torreahno Sweet finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.
 
As a team, JSU pounded out 11 hits and left only batters on base.
 
In the series opener, JSU's offense came to life and produced 14 hits to run away with the win.
 
The Tigers scored 11 runs in the bottom half of the frame, which was highlighted by Smith's grand slam.
 
Marshal Luiz batted 2-for-2 with three RBI, Wesley Reyes finished 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI, Chris Prentiss went 1-for-3 with two RBI, and Josh Green batted 2-for-3 with an RBI.
 
CJ Newsome, Kyland Richey, Chandler Dillard each collected hits.
 
Brandon Valentin tossed the complete game to earn the win. Valentin fanned 12 and scattered four hits and walked four.
 
JSU returns to the diamond Friday and hosts rival Alcorn in the SWAC opener. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Bob Braddy Field.
