Box Score 2 NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Lady Tigers wrapped up the weekend at the Big Easy Classic Saturday afternoon with a pair of losses to Montana and Houston Baptist.
Jackson State dropped game one to Montana by a final of 9-1 before falling to HBU, 6-0.
GAME ONE
In game one versus Montana, the Grizzlies jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead through three innings, scoring four runs in the first, two in the second and one in the third.
Jackson State put a run on the board in fourth with an RBI single from
Madelyn Prukop that scored
Tamira Chatman to cut the score to 7-1.
Montana scored two more in the top of the fifth to take the 9-1 win as JSU dropped to 0-3 to start the weekend.
Prukop led JSU with one hit in two at bats with an RBI.
Alexis Arrendondo added a hit for the Blue and White as JSU collected two hits as a team in the game.
GAME TWO
Houston Baptist took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of play, as neither team would manage to add another run until the sixth inning.
HBU used a four run sixth inning to increase it's lead to 5-0 before ceiling the game ultimately with an insurance run in the seventh inning as HBU went on the defeat the Tigers 6-0 in the final game of the weekend for Jackson State.
Kayla Owens, in her second start of the season, managed a complete game, working seven innings, while giving up six runs, five of which were earned, and striking out five opposing hitters in 34 batters faced.
Jackson State tallied just one hit in the loss which came off the bat of
Kaitlyn Elzie, who finished 1-for-2 at the plate.
UP NEXT
The Lady Tigers fell to 0-4 to start the season in a tough weekend at the Big Easy Classic in New Orleans, but look to rebound next weekend with a six game weekend in Vicksburg, Miss. beginning Friday with a pair of contests versus Kentucky State and Jarvis Christian. JSU and KSU are slated for first pitch at 1 p.m. while Jarvis Christian and the Tigers played directly after at 3 p.m.
