SPARTENBURG, S.C. – South Carolina-Upstate defeated Jackson State 13-7 in game one of a two-game set.
Devontae Rhodes, batting from the eighth spot in the lineup, batted 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI and scored two runs.
Jaylyn Williams finished 2-for-5 and scored twice, while
Wesley Reyes went 2-for-5 with an RBI and scored once.
Chris Prentiss also added a hit for the Tigers.
As a team, JSU collected nine hits and left 10 runners in scoring position.
Brandon Valentin absorbed the loss. Valentin tossed 4.2 innings and scattered seven hits and allowed four runs and one walk and struck out one.
JSU and SC-Update conclude their series Tuesday at 2 p.m.
