Jackson State Slips to AAMU in Regular Season Finale, Finishing 16-2 in SWAC Play

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The 2020 regular season wrapped up Saturday afternoon, as the Lady Tigers slipped to Alabama A&M by a final score of 75-71.

In what was an odd week for JSU, having to play three games in a matter of seven days, Jackson State suffered just it's second loss of the season in SWAC play.

In a game that was intense from the very beginning, the Tigers were forced to fight it out all the way until literally the last 0.5 seconds left in the game. Ameshya Williams played a season high 34 minutes of action, scoring 26 points and grabbing 15 rebounds, both team highs.

Marneisha Hamer tallied 18 points and seven rebounds while Dayzsha Rogan 10 points.

Kaisah Lucky had 10 assists, eight rebounds, and six points.  The Lady Tigers finished the game shooting 29-of-68 as a team while out rebounding AAMU 44-34.

Jackson State trailed by as many as 16 points in the third quarter, but dug their heels into the court and fought back to an impressive 65-65 tie with just minutes left in the game.

Despite the loss, anytime a team faces adversity and and works back from 16 points down is always an encouraging, especially when playing three games in one week and at the end of a long SWAC regular season.

In basketball, teams win some and lose some, however, the Lady Tigers won an astounding 16 conference games on the season. The mark tied the best mark in program history, matching the 2003-04 season at 16-2.

The Lady Tigers accomplished a regular season for the ages, winning the SWAC regular season championship and automatically claiming a spot in the WNIT, however starting next Tuesday, the regular season will be a thing of the past as this is a team that has their eyes on a bigger goal. To be the official SWAC Champions.

They will have a few days off of competition before they gear up for a post season run starting at home Tuesday, where they will host the conference's No. 8 seed.
