Jackson State Routs Florida A&M to Complete Series Sweep

JACKSON, Miss. -- Jackson State rolled past Florida A&M 12-6 and completed the series sweep Sunday afternoon at Braddy Field.

The Tigers improved to 9-5 and the Rattlers fall to 4-9 on the year.

Tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth, the JSU offense came alive.

Wesley Reyes used his body – literally – to start the scoring when he was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded.

Chris Prentiss singled through the right field to score two runs, while Reyes later scored on a wild pitch. Prentiss and Jefrey Rodriguez scored on a FAMU error and JSU opened an 8-2 advantage.

The Tigers also used a big seventh inning to put the game out of reach.

Chandler Dillard pushed across a run with a sacrifice fly to left field and CJ Newsome took the advantage of a passed ball to score a run.

Reyes capped the scoring with an RBI double to left field.

Prentiss batted 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and scored three runs, while Reyes finished 2-for-4 with three RBI.

The Tigers were aggressive on the base paths. Equon Smith and Prentiss each stole three bases.

Nikelle Galatas, the Preseason SWAC Pitcher of the Year earned the win and improved to 2-0 on the year. Galatas tossed 7.0 innings and scattered 10 hits and allowed six runs and two walks and struck out 11 batters.

JSU returns to action Tuesday and begins a two-game series at South Carolina-Upstate.
