Jackson State Impresses in 68-44 Win at Texas Southern

HOUSTON, Texas - Jackson State looked like a team on a mission in Monday night's impressive victory at Texas Southern, 68-44.

The Lady Tigers took control of the contest quickly, leading 19-4 at the end of the first half. In the first half alone, JSU held Texas Southern to just 15 total points, leading the game 38-15 at the break.

Lisa Leslie nominee, Ameshya Williams, had 17 points, 13 rebounds, and two blocked shots in the first half with Jariyah Covington tallying nine points at the break. 

With more than a 30-point lead in the second half, Jackson State got a lot of production out of the bench with 26 points and eight Lady Tigers earning more than 15-minutes of action. 

Jackson State cruised to a 24-point win, defeating Texas Southern by a final score of 68-44 to win it's fourth SWAC game in a row. 

Williams led all Lady Tigers with 23 points, 16 rebounds, and three blocked shots. She was also a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line. 

Covington provided 11-points on 5-of-10 shooting while Dayzsha Rogan was able to add 10 points in the contest. 

Elexis Peyton had six points to go along with seven rebounds in 19 minutes of play. Antionette Womack also added seven rebounds on the night.

As a team, JSU shot 24-of-59, with 59 rebounds, and 28 bench points.  The win pushed JSU over .500 overall on the season with a record of 6-5 and 5-1 in SWAC play.

The Lady Tigers return to the court on Saturday with a road matchup at Grambling State. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
