Tigers Drop Non-Conference Matchup To Unbeaten Indiana

Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ind - The Jackson State men's basketball team could not stop undefeated Indiana, falling 70-35 in a non-conference matchup.. The Hoosiers (5-0) broke the game open midway through the first half, and the Tigers (0-5) were unable to replicate a comeback.

Junior guard Gabe Watson scored a game-high 14 points, while Jayveous McKinnis added six points and 10 rebounds.

Three Hoosiers reached double figures in scoring, including a game-high 14 by Xavier Johnson.

The game began as a back-and-forth battle before Indiana went on a 7-0 run during the first seven minutes of the first half. Watson hit a pull up three-point jumper to end the early run. The Hoosiers also went on an 11-0 run in the first half during the 7:23 mark and the Hoosiers closed the half by taking the momentum, 34-17.

Indiana kept its foot on the gas in the second half, and the Tigers did not have an answer. Johnson scored six of his 14 points in the second half.

"I thought Indiana was a very good defensive team that gave us problems all night with their length and athleticism," head coach Wayne Brent said. "We had some bright spots that we can build on and I thought Terence Lewis II and Chris Freeman showed that they can help us down the road."
